Just my opinion: It's usable on both FX and Dx and it is a better lens in part because of the manual aperture control v the gelded G lens which lack the aperture ring and it has a lot more metal in its construction.

I've had both the D (f/2) an G (f/1.8) and sold the G lens after comparing photo quality between them. My 35mm f/2D lens beat the crap out of the G lens..

I have started selling my G lens and going all D lens on my D200 and D90.

So I have a 50mm/1.8D that I use quite often. This weekend I was in a situation where that was just a touch too long, and ran out of room due to a wall. This 35/1.8G looks like the perfect solution to that.

I have an opportunity to buy one of these used. Is this just lens hoarding or do you think it makes sense?

That is the answer. I just sold my 50 1.4D only because the 35 is always on the camera now.

I have both the 35mm 1.8 and the 50mm 1.8. I much prefer the focal length of the 35mm on my D300. I just seems more usable to me.

Well I pulled the trigger and bought the 35mm f/1.8G. The 35mm f/2D lens was just too expensive for me to justify buying it..

We'll see how it does with my D90 and D200

I just picked one up at Best buy of all places.. for the same price as Adorama and B&H.. of course I had to pay tax, but they had it in stock... I gotta admit, I didn't know what to expect out of this lens.. Third time to ever shoot baskeball, ever, first time with this lens.. I'm kinda impressed. I would like them to be a little sharper...probably user error..

Your basketball shots there don't really look that bad at all...

I think with a bit practice with the lens you will catch the sharp focus in no time.

What was your F-Stop and Shutter Speed at when you took em?

Hey Ray,

Thanks,, I'm not sure why the Exif data got stripped but the first one
F/2.2
Iso 1600
Shutter 1/320

Nikon D200 so it's kinda noisy..

The second was

F/2.2
Iso 1600
Shutter 1/320

Third was
F 2.0
ISO 1600
Shutter 1/500

Ray,
Don't go by my examples.. it is a wicked cool little lens for the money.... go over to HCE they probably have one you can test out with your body.. or rent one to see if you like it.. but at $200 purchase, it's not a big gamble, if you don't like it you can sell it pretty quickly I would assume, since most places are out of stock on it. I tried B&H (where I buy most of my gear on line) and Adorama, they were both out of stock, but my local Best Buy had one.. same price as the online guys..
