Nikon 60mm f/2.8G ED AF-S Micro-Nikkor - 01-10-2010, 10:55 PM

I bought this lens recently to be able to take closeup portraits. I really like the resolution and image quality. Here is a couple of images and a close up of the eye on the right image. The last image shows the bokeh. All three images shot at f/3.2 and hand held. I am happy with this purchase (pre-owned but in mint condition!)

Those are some nice pics from that lens ... I am interested in how well it takes shots in a low lighting situation ...

Do you mind getting a shot at night some where? I have looked at this lens but not actually jumped at the idea of picking one up ... your pictures though are making me thinking about it again.

Not sure exactly what you mean by "low light situation" - these images above were shot with the lens almost wide open, so that should give you an idea of how the lens performs in an extreme case. The ISO is 400, which on the D700 gives you very clean images... I have images with higher ISO, but that's not going to give you any more information about the lens, but about the performance of the camera.

Here is another image taken with the lens wide open, at 1/60 sec and ISO2200. The detail of the eye is straight out of the camera without any sharpening. Not bad for an ISO2200 image, but this is due to the performance of the D700 sensor.

Yeah ... ISO is all camera ability.

But thanks for letting me know what you shot almost wide open. Kinda gives me an idea of how fast the lens is.

Hi Paco, I am thinking about getting this lens, can I ask how far away were you from your subject on photos 1 and 3 on your very first post?

Thanks,

Hi Mike, I think I was pretty close for the first couple of images, maybe 1 ft or so? I like the lens' ability to focus pretty close. That's something my 85mm cannot do.

Both are great lenses, so it depends on your needs. I like to get close and personal, so the 60mm fits my requirements better.

Would you consider this lens for weddings?

John, I don't shoot weddings, so I am not the best person to answer that question. Since it's a relatively fast lens at f/2.8, it's a micro lens and it's pretty sharp, I'd assume you could use it for portraiture. I use it for portraits, especially closeup portraits.

Thanks for posting the samples - always helpful when one is considering picking one of these up.

Appreciate it.

Paco, do you have any "macro" samples? I guess #2 qualifies for this already...

Hi Paco, thanks for the information you shared above. I finally got the 60mm micro lens. Pretty awesome I must say. Here's a shot I took after I got the lens.
