What an unfortunate name for a large-ish lens..."ED" has come to conjur thoughts un-related to photography. Cialis anyone? heh

Nikon has been using the Extra-low Dispersion glass terminology for many, many years and you’re the first person I’ve seen connect the two. Interesting……….

I like this lens alot especially for what I paid for it, 175.00 in like new condition. Focus isn't very fast on moving subjects on my D80, but definitely usable for sure. Soft wide open but sharp by 5.6 at 70mm and 8 at 300mm from my experience with it.

These are both wide open examples

These are from the 70-300 af-d ed, Nikon D80

Nice pic Mike, but this review thread is about the 70-300 ed af-d, which is a different lens than the 70-300 af-s vr.

I have that lens 70-300 ed-af-d
its like new less a scratch on the lens hood that I would like to sell if anyone is interested. Glass is like new make no mistake this is the ED f4-5.6D not a VR
takes great photos if you point it in the right direction :)
Let me know if you are interested and I can shoot some samples for you if you like!
