Thanks! Try to not get your mind too twisted up with that debate. Simply your arguments for each. The way I see it is:

1.4G - shoots at 1.4. I do a lot of walk-around shooting in low-light and like to have the option. Also, I gain the option of having a little more shallow DOF.

1.8G - sharper, contains an aspherical element, same build quality. if you don't need that extra 2/3 of a stop then why spend over twice as much?
