Bill, its also a great portrait lens as well on a D700 body. A little long on a D80/D300/D90 type body, but still very, very nice. Quote:

I'm looking forward to getting the lens early next week. I'm moving in the direction of portraits with the 105mm as a couple of decades ago, my dad had a 105mm for his Contax RTS which I now own. Great shots back then.
Also going to be using the lens for when I photograph jewelry for my clients. I'll post some shots next week to see what everyone thinks. | | | |

I got this year to use in my mineral photography, but I have also found it very useful for capturing flowers (with and w/o insects), lizards in the garden, and the night blooming cactus on our porch. I don't have the VR version but since I use it on a tripod most of the time, it doesn't matter much. Here is a shot of the large night blooming cereus, taken with diffused flash.[IMG]
