The 105mm VR will stop down in Manual and A-priority modes. It's just a side-effect of that lens. Many of the AF macro lenses do this. If it's an IF (internally focusing) lens without an aperture ring... all bets are off as you have no physical control. There's probably an article on that somewhere... I'm just not interested enough to find it.

I bought this lens about a month ago and it is my favorite lens I have now and gets used the most. I do a lot of macro work on corals in reef aquariums and it is great. I was previously using a Tamron full manual 90mm that I also loved for macro work. I just got an itch for the the new lens after reading tons of reviews on it.

At the end of the summer I purchased a new road bicycle, a Trek 2.1 if anyone is interested. A buddy asked me to take some pictures what he called bike porn. Here are a couple of my favorites.

One for an upcoming article on the American Spirit Arms AR 15 and Nikon M223 scope. Composited with Helicon Focus and punched up the clarity a tad.
