A little background:

...so after a drunken discussion during 80s night at Numbers and a creepy little dream about it 7 years ago, I end up shooting the 'haunted' Jefferson Davis Hospital.

(Jeff Davis Hospital...built in '24 on top of the original Houston city cemetary...hundreds of confederate soldiers are buried under the hospital as well as many others. The place was abandoned in '36 when the 'new' jeff davis hospital was built (on allen pk way & imploded in '99)...

I've never shot anywhere so creepy and powerful...it became an addiction to at least drive by when in the area.

I was given a quick tour of the place and shot a couple times there from 2002 to 2004.

Flash forward to this year.

Did a shoot with Slipknot for one of my clients...specifically with Joey Jordison their drummer....has his new signature series of Promark drumsticks that came out Friday. This is for Promarks ad pieces, web, magazine articles, etc.

Joey gave several vials of blood...which he mixed into the red ink that's on the drumsticks. (yes, much like Kiss did in the 70s with the red ink in their comic book) So they really dug my idea of superimposing Joey within the abandoned hospital...Nancy got it on video when he said "S*** man, thats f****n' insane. That might be one of the best photos I've taken. You've gotta take our next album photos."

...rockstars are classy like that...

Here are a couple of the shots and a bit of video of the shoot...

http://www.promark.com/joey/

Although I can't release the ad stuff yet, part of it is in the latest issue of Kerrang...

Will post more when I can....

Point of post : Always keep your images close at hand...you never know when you're gonna use'em...

I visited that place back in highschool with some friends. Twice. Each time was eerie in its own way. Ugh...

haha right on...!

haha well....I'll take one for the team and tell a story...

That time in 2002, the first time I shot there, I was shooting along side a news reporter and cameraman doing a story about it being haunted.

While they shot on the 2nd floor I went to the 3rd floor to shoot so my camera noise didn't interfere with the filming.

I put my cell on vibrate and put it in my pocket started shooting. I got in the middle of this *creepy* hallway and got down on my stomach to shoot long exposures. It was creeeepy and darrrk.

My wife decided to call me...my phone vibrated in my pants while I was on the floor...and I freeeeeaked out.

The tv crew came running up the stairs to see if I was ok....because apparently I screamed like a 12 yr old girl.

It's been remodeled, and is now known as Elder Street Artist's Lofts. They maintained the facade and most of the integrity of the interior structure, at least.
You can see it from I-45, just to the northwest of downtown. But there isn't much left to shoot, it's not so spooky anymore.

Yup....exactly. All the magic creepyness is gone. It's amazing what they did with the place...it looks beautiful as it did in the 20s.

However the buried are still under there...so the clientele are 'understanding'...haha. I would totally live there but my wife?....not so much. She's just happy we bought our house before the loft announcement or she'd knew I'd wanna live there.

Here's more of the shoot fro 2002...
