Renae (carrbowl) suggested that someone start a new thread posting our first picture post and a recent one .. to inspire us all to realize we all started off not so good.. and have (hopefully) improved over time... So I'll be brave and go second (Heatherlou was first in her thread)...
This first one is Paul .. and was shot in December 2004 .. right after I'd gotten my first light set and had no real idea how to set it up (nevermind how to shoot actors)... The second is Ashley.. while not an actor, it was shot with my actor setup... Feel free to add your own... the idea is to inspire those that think they will never "get it"

This was when I started... and why I started...
She's 22 months old now... I think she was 3 months old in this photo...
A recent senior session:
Okay - that isn't a recent senior session... this is:

Hehehe, ok, you don't have to go back THAT far, Janice :)
But I *could*
(When this was shot, I was about the same age as the subject.)

All of my early (Pre 1978) work was destroyed when our water heater exploded! Prints and negs were damaged beyond repair. My desk was just around the corner from the water heater and by the time I got to it water had covered it and it was gone, gone.

Ok, this first image I had to copy from my Pbase site, so the quality is not good. This was one of the first images I posted here on TPF. I guess I haven't improved much, but the type of images I shoot now days are a lot different.

Gosh, what an embarrasment. Here you go!
The first one was done in 2006, before I took any courses on lighting. The second is not recent, but it's one I like because some thought went into the color, pose, etc. Hopefully I'll continue to grow as I think there is plenty of runway for me! And I think my favorite model is getting a lot better, now she remembers to zip up her jeans! I love her :-)

Paco, that second shot just ROCKS! Gorgeous. Daniel, same with that tennis shot. Those eyes get me every time. This is a great thread to see the growth of everyone.

Great thread!
Brad, thanks for the kind words about Stella, she's a keeper. Lisa, glad you like that pic, red is just cool!
Boy, I forgot how much my pictures sucked. And they have sucked for a loooooooooong time. Here is me, as a wiry teenager and some cheapo camera - forgot what I was trying to photograph, but nothing good, I can imagine!
My father passed his love for photography to me. He took this second image in 1957 when he was 22 years old, and won some kind of regional prize.
