After the session she came up to me and hugged me tightly and apologized! She said she didn't realize she was popping her gum!

Wow...I certainly didn't expect that!

My parents taught civility and courtesy to me, my wife and I are teaching our son...schools have enough on their plate without being my sons parent

That's the problem. Everyone doesn't have your parents so the burden now falls to our societies.

Not asking the schools to "raise" children but maybe a year long class on teaching people to be civil, considerate, and polite. There no one can say they weren't taught something. Something everyone can reference.

Don't worry about it. I'll holler at anybody's kid if they need it!

I was at an Astro's game last year and some girl was yakking on the d#*n phone during the national anthem. I turned and stared directly at her with my best "if looks could kill" look. Didn't say a word to her, but she got the message and hung up the phone.

On the other end of the spectrum, I was in a McDonald's in Ohio about 10 years ago talking on the pay phone to my wife (for you youngsters in the group, that's an old style phone that you had to put coins in back in the pre-cell phone days. ) The phone was in an entry way alcove and a group of middle or early high school kids came in and were waiting for their coach in the alcove. They were talking quietly and not bothering me, but one kid laughed a bit loud. I saw his buddy nudge him and say "shhh...that guy's on the phone." I was impressed--and told the kids so when I thanked them for being considerate.

Now, about those lazy morons who leave the carts in parking spaces...

A little different... but you'll get the point.
My wife and I like certain seats in the movie theater, and will get there upwards of an hour early to make sure we get those seats. (Harry Potter movies we'll get there 3 to 4 hours early... though with the new one coming out... better make it 6)
So anyway... I was sitting there, and the opening credits are running when a family of three come into the theater. There was 1 empty seat on each side of my wife and I, and 2 empty seats way up in the very back corner.
The family asked me to move... and I told them no. They got a manager to ask me, and I told the manager that I waited an hour for that seat, and that I wasn't moving, and that if they wanted decent seats to a premier movie, they shouldn't have showed up late.

Mean... I know. But I used to be the nice one, and all it ever got me was kicked out of my seats, or stared rudely at for insinuating they were being rude. I've learned that now a-days, you can't be nice or you'll get shat on.
