Customer Service: Where it's REALLY at! - 05-27-2009, 01:07 PM

I was on my way to pick up my daughter after school... it was about 5:30, and when I went to stop a few times, I noticed a funny sound.

Now - I'm the only girl with 8 brothers.... I knew immediately what said 'funny sound' was.

Time for a brake job.

While I am perfectly capable of doing this - it's a pain in the butt - and I don't have any access to a shop to do it, and my neighors would probably frown on my doing it in my driveway.

So I sang the little 'theme song' in my head til I got to 'Brake Check' - looked them up on my iphone, and called. It was about 5:40... a nice guy answered the phone, and told me to come on by. He had 2 full jobs there, but said if they had the parts, they'd get it fixed for me.

When I got there, another guy had gotten there before me.

I listened to this employee (Dewayne) for over an hour... heard him answer the phones, heard him speak with the guy in front of me... and then when we went over what I needed done.

Customer Service Professional to the highest level... polite, professional, and personable.

And - they got it done for me, that night.

It occured to me - that alot of people do NOT realize how important customer service is in their business.

It is a HUGE issue...

You either realize it... and you'll do better than you think... or don't, and you'll go the way of the dodo...

Just my 2 cents...

(and if you ever need a brake job, I recommend the guys over off of Grand Parkway in Katy!).

Customer service seems so obviously important, but it's often overlooked. Customer service is really important now because it's harder to separate some people from what little money they have. If you positively sell yourself along with your product, you're ahead of most of the competition.

But I think it has changed....I think we used to have customer service..then came Wal-Mart, Target, Lowes, Home Depot etc, they offer all the great low prices and people loved it. Only "we" forgot that when we get low prices, we lose customer service. Now it seems, all we get is low prices and it is rare to get customer service, so when we do, we absolutely love it. Now of course I'm speaking in general terms...and maybe that are several years older may say different....I've been all washed up before!!!

Less quality employees, but that's a whole other can of worms.
