I'm not their target audience by any means...

Been there, done that.... and honestly, active army isn't so bad. In four years, he'll have been deployed twice, called up for 5+ hurricanes, spent around 6 or 7 months in training... PLUS regular guard weekends...
Active Army would be a breeze... lol... at least then we wouldn't have to deal with his PITA boss who schedules him OFF on Sun-Tuesday... and working Wed-Sunday after he gave her a drill schedule MONTHS ago that told her that he'd be on NG duty Thurs-Sunday... every month he goes through this with her... he gives her a copy of his drill schedule, and the other things, and reminds her, and reminds her, and then she gets mad at HIM for asking her to change the schedule so that he can WORK.
Sounds like your FRG is pretty standard.
I think it's a huge cluster &$%#. I was a huge participant in ours - until the commander decided that he wanted a 'dress uniform' Christmas event, which meant an evening event... AFTER I had arranged a hugely supported/funded Sunday lunch time Christmas event with one of the largest groups in Houston... who was taking care of the food, AND the gifts (it was a Family event btw) for the kids...all of it.
But no, he wanted a 'Class A' event... nevermind that these are NG soldiers, most of whom don't even OWN a set of Class A's... and if they do, don't FIT into said uniforms. But he was insistent, and said that he'd get them all uniforms. So he found a VFW that was in a scary part of Houston, and we had a Christmas party there... on the second floor, with two HUGE sets of 'unbarricadable' stair cases... with alot of little kids. My daughter was given a barbie knock off who was misshapen...Santa Claus looked like he'd been picked up on the corner, and his pants were falling off.
I was thoroughly disgusted. It was more about what 'he' wanted it to 'look' like, than for the benefit of his soldiers, their spouses, and their children... so I stepped down out of sheer pissed offness. His MIL was the FRG leader... and she quit as well...

The new FRG leader is a 'yes' person... and I have NO tolerance for people who can not set boundaries. Unless you go by the name 'God'... you have to set boundaries for this type of organization.
Now he's gone, and we have a NEW FRG leader... oh... and did I mention that they moved Brad (my husband) from an armory that was like 20 to 25 minutes away, to one that is an hour + away? We are now combined with Company A... and they have FRG meetings at 1pm on Saturdays on drill weekends... as if I'm going to drive an hour or more for those things... they currently have TWO people who are 'active'... and are curious why...
*sigh*
I hate it - honestly - because I feel like, as a spouse - more importantly - as an organized spouse who is capable of supporting OTHER spouses who might not be so independent - it's MY duty to participate. But I hate it when stupid people are in charge... and make stupid decisions... and create all kinds of drama. They are going to be deployed, and 'drama' is not the ingredient I need during that time.
NOT at all... *lol*
Sorry for the long book.... can you tell you opened up a can of worms?
