So - the girlfriend of this kid that I've known for 9 years just left - after giving me an hour long presentation on Cutco Knives.
My husband is into knives more than me... when she pulled out the 'comparison' paperwork showing Henckles knives, I knew who that was... only cause my husband had TOLD me about Henckles knives...
She cut a penny up, and made a really cute 'curly' thing...
I'm interested. I like the 'free sharpening for life' ... and I like the 'klutz' clause... they guarentee the product. My husband is out of pocket for a couple days, and we have an agreement on 'allowed purchase amounts' without discussion, and this is definitely OVER said purchase amounts... *grin*...
I love the 'made in America' part...
Anyone own them? What do you think?

Yeah - I did a quick search and I think alot of people don't realize that you can have a rep come by and sharpen your knives for you, without having to send them in. I thought that was cool.
I cracked up at the former sales rep with them's article though... that's kind of funny. He says it's a great product, and you can make money doing it... if you work at it... (I'm in sales & marketing) as if that' s a NEW concept... lol...
Thanks for the links!

My roommate that I used to stay w/ sell these knives and I am one stubborn person to be convinced.... it's very sharp and it stay sharp.
the material isnt anything special, it's just the way they treat it to keep it strong and very ductile. is it worth the money? prolly not. Again, I am very stubborn and always find other means to not spending money on some junks. I would invest in a knife sharpener instead. Thats just me, im a gear-head.

We have both Cutco and Henckle knives. I think that they are both very good. I prefer the microserrations on my Henckles opposed to the standard serration on her Cutcos.

Never bought a full set of top end knives, but I have a sabatier that was purchased new in '83. Still holds a razor edge. Sharpens with a ceramic stick or on the bottom of a fine china plate as long as the bottom ring is unglazed, which is the way it should be on fine china.
Nice that the stuff you were shown was made in America, but from a utilitarian standpoint, do you have time to wait for them to come by and sharpen them or do you plan on having them sharpened on a schedule of some sort?
I may buy set of something in the distant future and when I do I'll most likely stick with Wustof, Henckel or Sabatier.

Seriously.
I have the full set of Pampered Chef knives... with their handly little 'in case' sharpeners... and I don't sharpen THOSE... so calling someone to come sharpen them all at once? *grin*.... sounds RIGHT up my alley.
Come on by - I'll make coffee... you can sharpen the knives while I work...

I'm not into knives much either - but the FH is. He bought a set of these a few months back and they are really nice. Would I have paid that much for a set - no.. But I do like them.
And watch out - the are very sharp!!! I have the small scar on my finger to prove it! lol Didn't see it go into the dish water once and just ran my hand past it and got a goot cut :(

I have a "professional" sharpening system that I don't use. Has diamond and ceramic stones. Doesn't leave me enough feel for me to enjoy the process. I find that diamond honing blocks work great to put an edge on something that has been neglected and ceramic sticks work great to finish a good edge.
Serrated knives are a whole nuther story; The serrations that help them stay sharp so long also make them a pain to sharpen.

We've had ours since before we were married (that was in 1976....) Still have them, still use them daily. Only had 1 or 2 need sharpening and iirc, that was after I dropped one and it bent the edge.
We still have my mom's Cutco knives, they're over 40 years old, maybe over 50. The wooden handles need special attention but they're still as good as ever. Even with Dad occassionally using one for cutting matboard or something like that....

If you are a cook, get the Cutcos.
If you are a chef, don't. IMHO.

Cutco knives are a just another vehicle for shady multi-level marketing schemes.
