Camping ideas - 06-01-2009, 10:55 AM

The family and I plan on going camping in a few weeks and are looking for some place "new" to go. We'll be camping in a tent. So I'll need electric and water at the camp site. I'll also need a cool down source... river or lake never by. Hiking, fishing and biking would be a plus to keep the kids busy. We have gone to Garner, Inks Lake, Pedernales Falls, Lost Maples, Blanco and Lake Texana to name a few. Any suggestions?

Lake Murray, OK - fishing, bike riding, horseback riding, sightseeing, very pretty lake

Purtis Creek, Eustace, TX - great bass fishing and some hiking

Tyler State Park - fishing, mountain biking, hiking, very pretty park

Caddo Lake - go on a swamp tour, canoe, fish, but very hot and humid with lots of poison ivy

I've had great times with my kids at possum kingdom and mineral wells state park, I would have to check but I think site no. 110 at p.k. is awesome. Have fun and remember to check for burn bans before you leave.

We did a trip to Bastrop State Park a couple years ago - had a blast. We are primitive campers - so electric/water/etc wasn't something we were focused on - but they have that there I believe.

This is my all time favorite campsite. It is close it is cheap like $20 per night. Has sites with everything or nothing. I have been going here since the late 60's early 70's. It is a great place to camp.

Caddo would be a change from where you've been.
Also Big Bend.

Brazos Bend also would not be too far from you.
Goose Island (right next door for you), and Galveston if you want beachy/ocean.
