The selections were just strange from a purely musical standpoint.

you/we are just too old school. I guess our generation just doesn't get all this new music. So, has the Cliburn jumped the shark?

I only got to listen to a little bit of the competition on 101.1 so I don't have a good opinion of the competition, but I have heard many with more skins on the wall than probably all of us lumped together say that this was not a very good competition all around and the finalists just weren't that appealing.

At least the one that came in 6th came in 6th because I heard her Sunday and she SUCKED wind compared to the 3 I heard on Sat Night (My sister who is a pianist and was a music major also thought that the 6th placed girl was way off on Sunday).

I really liked the Bulgarian and Italian when they played.

So maybe some purging will help your disposition?
