Question Public Pools = Public Toilets - 06-08-2009, 06:27 AM

Ok... if you're child has diarreah, please do not take them to a public waterpark. Leave them in the bathtub please?

While watching the news this morning, CBS 11 played a PSA with a doctor talking about how chlorine doesn't kill all the germs, and that parents should warn their kids to keep their mouths closed while swimming in public waterparks and lakes. As well, he suggested that parents not take their kids to the park if they have diarreah?!?!? WTF? SERIOUSLY?

Do parents do that?

And all my friends wonder why I wont go to Hurricane Harbor with them.... public water park = public toilet....

I've got a 12 year old, so I've got kid in the pool experience.

My husband is getting Sarah (out 22 month old) ready to go to the gym/pool. He puts a swim diaper on her an hour or so before we leave - and I tell him, don't do that, put a regular diaper on her, those swim diapers don't absorb.

He looks at me and says, how do they absorb the pee if she pee's....

I tell him, they don't, they just catch any bm's if she has them in the pool.

The look on his face was priceless.....

I swear I almost PIMP's I was laughing so hard.....

For some parents....

And you two, you're as bad as him! "These things do happen." Ma! Ugh!

This thing does not happen!

If it's a rule somewhere, someone has already tried/ done it or is thinking about doing it. most of the time, someone has already done it.

It's because of the crypto whateverwhoozeit scares from last summer ... spread through public pools when an infected person takes a dump (intended or not) and then someone comes along and ingests some of the water or has an open wound (another reason not to swim). Pools were closed because of incidents. Public-pool attendance was down. You might remember all that stuff.

Some places continually hyperchlorinate their pools (which may or may not work, but is good PR). Others have some UV blaster thingee that is supposed to render the pool safe after Baby Huey squirts an infected load.

1. Don't swim if you're sick.
2. Don't swim if you have an open cut or sore.
3. Don't drink the water.
4. Have a nice day!

EDITED: I think last year's incidents are proof that so many parents don't have a freakin' clue.

we went to a local water park with our boys, and saw a parent tell a kid to pee on a tree near us. The bathroom was within walking distance, but the parent didn't want to mess with it. Some parents will surely take their diarrhea babies to a public pool...

Really when I was a kid back in the 60's you generally didn't see kids under about 4 at the city pools but now you see kids who can't even walk being tossed into a pool to swim and of course they do what they do.

One reason that I don't really go to public pools anymore.

I refer to it as "emergency code 2" and perhaps because of my age predicting it sometimes would be as hard as earthquake science.
