Question Anyone ever move Lightroom and its database from one computer to another - 06-08-2009, 07:56 PM

I am finally looking at updating my computer, and want to move Lightroom from my old MBP to my new one (if I get it.)

Has anyone moved that? What's the process like? I don't want to lose all my raw edits, and don't want to edit them on the old, dying mbp.

I've only installed my CS3 on one computer, so I should be able to just install the new one with that same key. Hopefully LR will be just as easy.

Really simple to move the lightroom database... Basically you just copy the database and the images to where you want it on the new computer and double click the database file. That opens up lightroom and you are all set.

Thanks Bryant.

I ordered the new 15" MBP and have my free Touch coming. I can't wait. Touch will be here by Friday, the MBP will be here between the 10th and 16th. Hopefully the 10th.

I am thinking of getting the 13" kind of want to see it in person before I go for it. I have the 15" now and have never really had a problem with the size... But I only ever use it for tethering and downloading on location so I might as well save whatever space I can. I just neeeed to update my first edition MBP.

You may already know this. A great way to migrate to a new Mac is to restart the old machine in Target mode, then connect it to the new one with firewire. OS X will import your data, settings, etc from the old computer.

Being able to start a mac in target mode, and have it act as a firewire drive is one of my favorite features of the Mac.

Nthing how easy this is. I'd frequently copy my LR catalog & files to an external drive and use it on a different computer for school.

Thanks for the help.

The New MacBook Pro is up and running perfectly. Now time to wipe the old one, upgrade the HD and get going again.
