Can anyone recommend a free program that will rip and convert DVDs for iPhone use? For Mac or PC, it doesn't matter.

(It's only for my personal use :-)

Came across HandBrake, and it's now running. We'll see what happens.

A little bonus is that it comes with an iPhone/iPod Touch preset so don't have to tinker with all the settings. Sometimes, you just wanna get it done!

HandBrake worked great! Ripped, converted, transferred to iTunes, then synced to my iPhone. Now the dreaded elliptical won't be so bad today. :-)

I'm mostly interested because it would make the Photovision discs easier to watch.. I rarely have time when I'm sitting in front of a DVD player or computer.

Here is a link to their download page, linux, mac, windoze. You'll want to download the GUI version if youre not familiar with the command line.

I do not endorse distributing of copyrighted materials. Though I dont have a problem with backing up your movies.

I am in love with DVDFab! It's not free but it does an AMAZING job backing up your DVDs.

I have "DVD to DVD" and "DVD to Mobile". DVD to Mobile will convert your DVDs to most mobile devices with one click of a button with the presets already loaded.

Just an alternative suggestion.

how much room are these converted files taking up? I'm curious. I'm going on vacation and might consider this option.

About 1 Gig per 90 minutes for live action. Animated features can be less. I have Madagascar at about 800MB.
