Arent we past stormy season? We got slammed last night and there is more coming tonight. What gives?

Im asking b/c Im not Texan and figured I forgot. The NYer in me, though, recalls hiding in the hallway with a mattress over my head the 1st year I was here during May. Its not May no more. What gives?

Uhh... warm moist air is lifted by afternoon heating. At some point it begins to cool and condense into clouds. As the moisture content builds droplets form and become heavy enough to begin to fall to lower levels where they evaporate. The layer of moisture laden air builds in thickness to the point where drops collide with drops and they merge to form larger drops. Once the drops reach a certain size they can no longer be held aloft by the rising air currents. That's when rain begins. The falling moisture "drags" air downward which sets up air currents in the clouds. The rising and falling air in conjunction with moisture and particulate matter embedded in the local atmosphere cause a static electricity charge to build up. Once the difference in potential between the cloud and ground reaches a point where the voltage exceeds the dielectric capacity of the surrounding air the static charge "jumps". The fast moving "bolt" of static electricity superheats the air causing it to expand and then just as quickly collapse on itself. This is the "boom" that follows the flash of "lightning". Or something like that

Texas has been doing the drought dance for a long time. Maybe you're just used to drought. We don't normally do drought... at least not this close to home. West Texas does drought... and flash floods...

You know Holly, it always does this around guild meeting time! It's a tradition!

Actually, for our area, it is kinda weirdo......we even had an *almost* tornado in Brownwood a month ago!

The biggest most awe inspiring storms I ever remember seeing in this area happen in the late fall...

November t-storms always seem to be exceedingly violent, but not usually with tornado activity.

I think we are probably in for a year long round of afternoon boomers... I think we are in year 9 of the 11 year sunspot cycle with the 11th being the most intense, and will subsequently set off two years of really dry periods. This year will be too wet and too wet at the wrong times to make a good crop -- but the storm activity will be intense... at least that is my crazy uneducated opinion :)

Nevermind -- I'll take care of it myself!
