Angry ModelMayhem Issues... - 06-12-2009, 08:09 PM

Ok, so, I filled out the required info, and submitted the required amount and styles of photos required...and my account was denied, but I was allowed to re-submit my profile for acceptance!!! WTF? I dont get it...I followed the requirements to a T, and I went through and tweeked a couple of things just to try and make it better, and I am just wondering WHY I was denied!

Has anyone else had this issue?? Do they have a size requirement for plus-size model profiles? Sorry I am not a perfect plus sized 12/14!!! WAY bigger girls than I are used for catalog and other print.

Anyways...I havent tried onemodelplace yet, are they better? Or is there some stupid approval hoop you have to jump through there too?

Thanks everyone!!!

It may have something to do with what words you put in your profile. Mine was denied twice before I found wording that they would approve....

If you post it here, we can tell you if we can spot anything they might object to.

Also, your pics need to be better than point-and-shoot....

Thanks...I am going to copy and paste my "bio" from there to here to get some pointers:

I feel as though I am a beautiful person inside and out. Over the years I have taken a lot of harsh comments for my weight, but that hasnt stopped me from wanting to be a plus-size model. I know I am not a size 14, like the general plus-size model is asked to be. However, I know bigger girls like myself are used in catalog photos and other things. I am hoping this site can open the door for me so I can at least get my feet wet and see how far I can get as a larger plus-size model. I dont look my size, I hold all my weight very well for a big girl. Ideally I see myself doing shoots for plus-size clothing catalog ads and maybe even some elegant pin-up type shoots. I am not hoping to be famous, but if I am able to even create a part-time career in the industry, I would be overjoyed! As far as contacting me, it can be done via this site, my website, and once contacted I have a myspace, facebook, and personal email.

I dont have any experiance in the industry, at least not on a professional level. I have done small shoots for beginning photographers and such.

I am fortunate enough to be able to pull off hats and glasses very well, and can wear clothes most heavier people cant.

My interests outside of modeling include beginner photography, writing, and animals. I know A LOT about animals, and actually am only five classes away from my vet assistant degree.

As far as the pics I chose to use...I used two from my "portrait" album, and from my album titled "Best Pics of me", I used the third and the last picture from there. If anyone has the time to look at my pics, can you tell me if those would be suitable for modelmayhem to accept?

I like the two that are on your homepage, and I saw another couple that could be good, but I need to go back and see which gallery they were in....

Okay, after looking again, my favorites (after the two on your home page) are:

Photos II - left column, third pic down

Photos III - right column, two and five down

I think your text needs a bit of work.... It sounds kind of defensive, and the mods may not like that? (just guessing—I have no way of knowing.) The text on your website home page is much friendlier, so maybe if you could try to keep your MM bio to that same tone??

Good luck! : )

from what I read on your home page about your pics, you seem to have a good idea of which pics are flattering to you, and which ones are not, but for what ever reason, you have put up pics that you do not think are flattering of you. Get rid of them, and start to be picky about the images that you let represent you.

I agree, your text comes across as defensive and that's not going to attract a lot of work from the site. Your images aren't of the highest quality (the ones I've looked at) and everyone has their bad days (especially the folks at MM) - I know you've seen it, but this is from their site:

"Provide 4 Different Photos
Four different photos are required for all accounts. No duplicates, re-crops, or manipulations of the same image. Members are expected to maintain a minimum of four relevant photos at all times.

Quality Images Required
We want quality images here. Your photos must be judged to be of sufficient quality. This means that you should not submit webcam shots, mirror shots, poorly exposed photos, too grainy, too much compression, arm's-length self portraits, personal snapshots, etc. "

My original submission (as a photog) was denied because I didn't have pictures up to their standard. I hate to say it, but I'm glad their starting to get stingy with acceptance of myspace quality photos. You're going to have to work harder than anyone else to get to where you want to be as a model.

Try browsing a few of the newly created profiles of folks in the area or in your size (you can browse/search by all kinds of features) and see what they've said in their profiles. They do take some things quite seriously at that site, be careful who you insult and whose toes you step on - they can and will brig (ban) you quickly once accepted.

I know it doesn't seem like it, but, spelling can be a crucial component during an evaluation. Be sure to proofread your bio.
