Working on a graphics peoject last night I cut off a bit of my left index finger and ended up in ER. They couldn't reattach it, but did a synthetic skin graft to cover the bone and help with infection. A tetanus shot, anti-biotics and "Norco" pain killers and I'm doing fine. Just glad it wasn't my trigger (pistol or camera) finger.
No pictures yet, as it still bandaged and in a splint. My wife was nice enough to put the piece in a zip lock bag, but it ended up in the garbage at the ER.
I also have to say that Baylor Grapevine ER was excellent. From triage to the other staff, they were fast and efficient and overall a much better experience than previous ER's.

To the bone? That's good chunk of skin and I'm sure it qualified for an "Aw @#$#" moment.
X-acto'ed the tip of my thumb off once and ended up in the ER when the bleeding wouldn't stop. Cauterized with silver nitrate. (ironic-the same stuff in film) Now there's a product, when used to stop bleeding, that will make you jump up and down and say bad words - over and over.

That bites. Cut 2 fingers on my left have with a table saw, not once but twice within a year each time. The last time it effected the nerve in my index finger and I have some very weird felling in it to this day. Hope things heal up and you have good feeling in it.

| Careful with that Norco. My wife got a prescription for it, at the same strength and the same "one or two as needed" directions that I got for it, even though she's just over half my weight and gets knocked out by a half-dose of Benadryl. Considering it had me at an unpleasant (though admittedly nearly pain-free) degree of loopy for four hours once it got past the hot and cold flashes, (and I'm one of those people they normally max out doses on to get the right effect) I'm glad she didn't overdo it. | | | |

OUCH - my dad, and a few of my brothers are all missing some part of one of their fingers... lol... they all worked offshore at some point, and weren't paying attention... go figure.
Hope it heals quick.

Ouch! Poor guy. Are we talking finger tip, as in 1/8", 1/4", 3/8", 1/2"... first joint? Any phantom pain yet? Sorry, I shouldn't be joking. At any rate, I hate to hear about your injury. Get well soon. Yeouchh! I always worry about that kind of thing.

Ok, it's not that bad, but fair warning that I'm posting 3 pics of my finger.
The dark stuff is the synthetic skin graft material that was on for 3 days and then removed.
** EDIT **
Actually, I decided to remove the images and post a link to them to give everyone fair warning. http://www.flickr.com/photos/dbphotography/3631694946/ dbphotos added 21 Minutes and 56 Seconds later...Double Post Merged Below Quote:

Just part of the side of the tip. Enough that it hurts and changes the shape a little but it won't affect the use once it heals.
