Learned a building tip the hard way... - 06-13-2009, 06:04 PM

So we had some softball practice this morning, 9-11am. After that I went home and took a shower and headed out to help a friend build a shed. There were 6 of us working on this shed and we had a nail gun to make things quicker.

So I'm holding a 2x4 in place for it to be nailed only to have the guy using the gun barely miss the board. I took a nail to the face, one inch below my eyeball! It hit about a half an inch below the very top of my cheekbone and bounced off. I would say that next time I will wear a hockey goalies mask but it would have just stuck in there!

You want to talk about a scary deal!! I wiped my face and my hand was covered in blood as everyone is just looking at me so I ask "am I alright, guys?" and the response I got was "no you're not! your bleeding!". lol So as I'm walking into the house to clean myself up someone asked "where'd it happen?" so my response was "right where the blood is coming out of!" lol Cleaned my face off and my shirt was covered in blood. Funny thing about it was I was wearing my blood donor shirt

Anyway, I had to share my wonderful story... the lesson is BE CAREFUL WITH THE NAIL GUN!!!!!

Once I had to make copies of an x-ray of a guy who put a 16d straight into his sinus cavity in about the same place. The nail head was left flush with the skin. Fortunately for him it missed the important stuff.

Yeah, I was helpinga friend with shed and I was nailing up high, going to fast, and it bounced adn nailed my hand to the board. Only through one finger, pullled it out with a hammer and bandaged it up, finished the shed. You got lucky, or should I say, God was watching over your a**

Thanks guys, it was a scary moment. Once I figured out just what happened I realized how lucky I was to 1) have my eyesight and 2) be alive!

And Larry, You can call me "Tim the FOOL man Taylor"

I have nightmares about nailguns, and have, for years. (Not all the time... just when I see somebody using one...)

Glad you're okay!

Nothing really to see. It hit my bone and bounced out... it really doesn't look that bad... unfortunately. As much as it hurt after it happened, I expected it to look worse.

We've been in contact with UPN (are they still around?). I can't say much due to the contractual obligations but it will include the time I almost cut my thumb off with a band saw...

Seriously - you guys scare the hell out of a person. Cutting off fingers... getting nailed... sheesh.,... stay away from the power tools...

I can remember when "getting nailed" was the object of the weekend.
