Anyone need their toilets scrubbed? Floors waxed? Truck washed? House/Studio cleaned? Kids babysat? Yard mowed? Fence mended? Trees trimmed? Dogs bathed?

The "I want lights" illness is in full effect and gov't pay isn't exactly on the high side of the payscale!

I have AB's - and they are AWESOME! My favorite thing about them, is the storage aspect - I don't have a 'studio' and so I like that they have nice little cases that you can store them in... and bags for the soft boxes... very nice for those of us with limited space allowance.

I dont care what they are actually, I only mentioned AB because its one of the most talked about brands.

I've been crusing the net today looking up lighting stuff, and now know the difference between a monolight, and a pack & head system. So I'll be looking up other brand names soon to see how things compare in price.

Yeah.. thats the expensive stuff huh?

ETA: I've been watching the "what do I buy" videos over at studiolighting.net and Profoto is what he was using. I'm doubting he'd be doing internationally broadcast internet tutorial videos with the cheap stuff.

That's some of it. There are several good names in lighting (ask Scott - he knows more about this than I do; I never had the money). But Profoto makes good lights and modifiers.

Yeeeeaaahhh.... I'm thinking not so much.

Kmart carry studio lighting? I'm gonna need the blue light special on this one to get started.

Have you thought about speedlights? My lighting kit consists of two small light stands, two old Nikon SB-24 flashes (the Vivitar 285 units work well too), and three radio remotes. I have two umbrellas for modifiers. It's not great but it works better than a D-cell flashlight...

Ain't no K-marts any more....

Keep your eyes and ears open. I found 3 AB800's at a very good price from a motorcycle shop that only used them a couple of times.

Shop Craigslist. Ask around. Sometimes "home garage studio" people sell out their stuff at great prices. Don Barnes in Denton may still have a head and pack outfit for sale ? (bondarnes on this forum). It's probably older than you are, but still works....

I sold a head and pack outfit a few months ago. Practically gave it away.

Before you buy, try getting someone to look over the stuff with you.

Um... what kind of beer do you like so I know what to purchase before I call you?

And hey.... I aint proud. I'll take that lighting system from 1967 thats been collecting dust in the back closet for the last half a century. If I can get a picture out of it, send it over!
