Question Need another DFW Olympus shooter... - 06-17-2009, 10:12 PM

I'm in search of another DFW Olympus shooter who would be willing to meet with me, or let me meet with them, and allow me to test out some of their Oly lenses on my camera. I'd like to try some other lenses that are better than my kit quality ones, to see how I like the rest of the lineup.

Anyone know anyone?

Chris,
Don't right off Canon or Nikon just yet. Try them before you spend more money on Olympus.

I'd be willing.....but I think I have the same two kit lenses as you.

Idela,
This is one reason why I want to try some other lenses. Lately I've been fighting a constant mental battle over the decision of whether or not I should jump ship. On one side of the street I hear that CaNikon is the way to go if I want to go 'pro' one day because Oly aims at the home photography enthusiast, or the 'serious hobbyist.' On the other side of the street, I hear from current 4/3's users that it can do everything CaNikon can do plus some, and that Oly lenses are some of the best on the market.

We are actually in Houston a few times a year, as we have family in Deer Park/Pasadena. I'll definitely look you up! I'd love to try the E3 as well.

The only extra lens I have for my Oly gear is the Sigma 30mm f1.4, but if you are in the Austin area I'll be happy to let you try it. I'm hoping to get the 12-60 soon. And eventually the E3 or E30 (or whatever replaces them).

I guess Eli Reed of Magnum who shoot Olympus isn't a Pro?

And Alex Majoli, horror of horrors has used a Olympus for PJ work and he to is a Magnum member.

I'd be happy to, but my manual Zuiko lenses are for the OM film cameras and you need an adaptor to use them on digital bodies. I have the excellent 50mm f/1.4 and the 100mm f/2.8 lens, plus a 135mm that's not the best.

I'll can tell you (since Im too far away)

30mm 1.4 - HATE it (if you end up wanting this one, PM me. I havent sold it yet thinking I may have an epiphany and suddenly love it. It just seems like I should, ya know?).

50 mm 2.0 - LOVE IT! You have to get one. Its amazing!!!

14-54mm - LOVE it!

kit lenses - I only use if I broke one of my other favs

And we have some other crap that I never use...so I wouldnt recommend them.

LOVE the 50mm! Its tack sharp, awesome DOF, and its a macro. It was giving me issues on the E-500 and was slow on the E1 (those are back up cameras), but on the E3 it works great. It felt like the other bodies had to 'think' a lot to get the lens to auto focus. That was the camera though, and not the lens.

....um..... ignorant question warning!

If it was slow on the E500 and E1.... what's it going to do on my E520? Or is/was that because the E500 and E1 are 'older technology,' kinda like trying to run windows xp on a 486 processor?
