Where to photo in Kuwait - 06-19-2009, 02:51 AM

This is kind of off topic for the Texas Photo Forum, however, I am on a business trip to Kuwait City, and I am terribly confused on photography here. This is my first non military trip here, and I don't really know what to do. I have read photography is banned, and then I have seen many great photos of the area. I carried my camera half way around the world, and now, for the first time, I do not quite know what to do with it.

If anyone has been to Kuwait, please share your photo tips.

Thanks,

Jay

I will email dh and see what he recommends. He has been too many times to count, but is rarely let off the base.

Thanks Breezy. I've been in and out many times on a C-130, but never off of an air base. I am now a civilian, and here on a consulting trip for two weeks looking for things to do on the weekend. The hotel staff is not much help, but none of them are locals. It seems this place is mainly a place to work and make money at almost every level. I know, there must be more to this place, but I just haven't found it yet.

Regards,

Jay P.

Good luck finding a good place. I may or may not hear from dh the emails seem to be spotty at best.
He has been in and out quickly several times and did several convoys and such over an 8.5 month span.
BTW would you be able to do me a huge favor? If you make it out to the Hard Rock could you grab a Hurricane glass and I would pay ya plus shipping? They were out when dh was there.

Here's an article on a photographer visiting Kuwait. There don't appear to be any problems photographing there.

I would go to Seif Palace, the Grand Mosque, and Failakai Island.

DH says there is a snow capped Mtn there that you might want to photograph and something about a mural on a building. He was pretty vague lol. If you need more help with it let me know and I can ask more specifics.

The snow capped mountian sounds wonderfull. Haven't seen it yet. Went sailing yesterday, however it is so hazy with the sand, visibility is about 1/2 mile so I did not pull the camera out. I will try the places suggested. Thank you very much.

Don't think you'll find a snow capped mountain in Kuwait. The highest mountain in the country is only 361 meters above sea level.

Kuwait's mountains.

The link has sat views of the three highest peaks and no snow.

John,
Well, at least they are higher than the ones in West Texas. The views from Google Earth look promising. Khashm Gudayy kind of reminds me of the good old Caprock on the way to Lubbock. Great idea, and it is on the highway just north of town.
Thanks,

Jay

Higher than west Texas peaks? Don't think so, Texas has seven peaks over 8,000 feet or 2,500 meter. The highest mountain in Kuwait is only 361 meters or 1,184 feet.

You can probably capture some nice sunrise and sunset's there. When I was there years ago, there were some very pretty colors mainly because of all the pollution in the air.
