im thinking of going all out here with film. I love shooting film, and it loves me,lol.

Here's what im thinking. Shooting b&w film, developing it myself, and then getting a slide scanner to convert it to digital.

Anyone have any experience with such a thing? Is it worth it?

Not crazy at all. You don't want a slide scanner but a film scanner.

Here is the place to learn all you want to know, APUG (Analog Photography User Group).

But why not go all the way and do wet printing?

It's arguable with today's finer equipment, but the conversion from analog to digital might result in slightly noticeable loss of detail compared to printing directly from the film.

To get started, you shouldn't have to spend much. My consumer-grade Epson flatbed scanner came with film-scanning accessories and works OK. I paid $100 for it five years ago.

Cool, exactly what I wanted to know! This will also be a double edged sword as I plan to also restore many of our pictures that weve taken over the years that currently reside on negatives and slides. Do I need anything special to scan negatives?

You'll have to see with whichever scanner you buy. Mine has an attached to hold the negatives, as well as a plug-in accessory that makes them "positive" for scanning. Those things were included in the box with mine, but might not be the case with the new ones.
