Question Seriously... how do they figure this stuff out? - 06-22-2009, 05:05 AM

From the Mpix.com website:

With this paper don’t worry about prints fading. The standard archival value is 100 years in home display and 200 years in dark storage.

Now... do you think they had this paper in 1909? Surely not. So how do they know it will hold out for 100 years?

I'm not knocking Mpix... in fact I just signed up, I was just curious as to how Kodak knows this about their papers.

Read "Double Fold" archival paper has been around for centuries. There are newspaper from the early 1800's printed on 100% linen paper almost as good as when they were printed.

As for all things archival, see the pages of the Wilhelm Imaging Research to understand the various archival testing protocols.

Laboratory testing. They simulate the conditions and extrapolate the results. That and the cool time machine they have in the back room. But don't tell anyone, its a government conspiracy.
