It's time for an upgrade. I see a lot of negative comments on the Verizon "Storm" product page, and then there are those who love them. The word is the new version of the "Storm" will be out this fall and I am sure with a hefty price tag that will not make it an upgrade option. The current "Storm" is only $49 as an upgrade, and the "Pearl" is free. I currently have a "Razor".
So what is the view here?

Switch to AT&T and get an Iphone, and join with us like the others.

I got the Storm as part of my work office cell phone about 5 weeks ago. And I thought it was great (Verizon full data package), it was my first touch screen, untill last weekend I got the iphone for my personal cell. WOW the iphone rocks, I am working on having my office take back the Storm and having them pay a protion of my ATT bill so that I will use my iphone and my personal and company cell phone.
But if you never had a touch screen cell the Storm is not bad. You will like it untill you try a iphone, then you will want to throw it way for the iphone.
Hope this helps. | | | |

NO. Rumors ar eteh Storm 2 is coming soon and fixes many of the Storm's issues. You'd be better off with a Bold if you really want a Blackberry.
I have an HTC Touch Pro, but I don't know if I'd recommmend it either.

My young daughter has an Itouch and it is fun but 3 phones and a aircard all with different renewal dates rules out switching to AT&T. I'll look at the "Bold" and see if it is an option. I am sure the reason Verizon is pushing the "Storm" so cheep is because of the new version, RIM's VP only would say 2009. Hopefully they will not rush it. Keep those reviews coming. I have the itch for a new phone but being stuck with a bad one for two years is a bad thing.

The storm is a good device on an excellent network. For me the sure press screen takes some getting use to. There are a couple of tricks which will reduce the amt of pressure which is needed to depress the button which will enhance the responsiveness when typing.
If you plan on doing a lot of emails or text then I would suggest the 8830 if you need a world phone or the curve, not sure if vzw has replaced it with a newer model yet. For me I type a bit faster on a physical keyboard vs a virtual one.
I have a storm and am more than happy with it.

Robert,
I must tell you, I am not a Mac freak, I work with windows PC's and Windows OS servers all day. I must say that Apple got the iphone right, it is very intuitive and networking wise very easy to set-up when connecting to a wireless network. In this last week alone, I was in a hotel conference room and a convention center building, And I connected to the convention center wireless network just by clicking "connect" on the little window that automatically pops up when the iphone detects a WiFi. In the hotel conference room I just called the front desk and asked for the web key and punched it in on the same window and connected. So even if I had bad cell phone reception in those areas, my internet was still fast due to it running on the hotels and convention center's WiFi.
Now I have set-up it to processes credit and debit cards with an iphone application. So if I am shooting a wedding or at the zoo and a person wants a portrait photo of them at the zoo or a copy of a photo of them with the bride, I can processes and collect their payment right there and then through my Iphone. Then just e-mail them the receipt and drop ship their photos. So for my small personal photography business it has opened new areas for profit.

Subscribing to this thread since we can upgrade phones in Oct. I have played with and LOVE the iPhone but will not under any circumstances switch back to AT&T to get one. We had AT&T a couple of years ago and were constantly fighting to find a signal of any kind in four different states in the same year. North Dakota - nada; Oregon Coast - nope; AZ and UT national parks - forget about it. I have read that VZW will get the Palm Pre in the near future and the reviews on it are pretty good. Curious to see about the Storm upgrade though.

I have had the Storm for about four months and very much enjoy using it. If you at all have a chance to play with one, at the Verizon store or else where, by all means do so. The Storm seems to be a love it or hate it thing, not too many people are neutral about it. If you do decide to get the Storm go to: http://www.blackberryforums.com/ and go to the Storm section and read the 'tips' items. Many of these tips are not in the manual and make life with the Storm much easier.
The Storm is a "world" phone; I have used mine both in the US on Verizon's network and traveling in Europe on GSM networks and it works well. | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
