Galveston on the fourth? - 06-24-2009, 04:13 PM

We'll be in Houston on the third for a wedding. (Attending, not shooting.) As a family, we really enjoy the fourth of July and want to do something special. I was thinking about heading out to Galveston, but was curious if anyone can share with me their experience of Galveston on the fourth.

Besides the parade, are there fireworks?

Will the beach be super crowded?

Is there something alternative in the Houston area that we should be planning that would be more fun for the family and a better "fourth of July" celebration?

We've been to Galveston on the fourth and other than the beach, there wasn't anything going on - and that was years before Ike. You might check around and see what is open, although it could make for a quiet 4th.
