UPS and FedEx have free notification email services. I have them message my cell phone with updates. Both are pretty good about updates. USPS is a waste of time. I have never seen updates come across the screen.

Oh, I forgot about the time the USPS lost one of my packages. That information was displayed on screen. So I took a screen shot and sent it to Amazon to re-fill the order. UPS had it there the next day.

USPS is NOT tracking, it's delivery confirmation.

However UPS on the other hand...I actually was waiting for something and it never changed from "Destination Scan" at the local sorting facility to "Out for Delivery"...then I checked it and it said it'd been delivered. As soon as I got home I had to go track down my new bag.

Yeah, I pretty much do that.
I don't actually sit there and hit refresh, but I do "check frequently."

No point in checking more than twice a day. Early in the morning to see if it's out for delivery and in the evening to see what hub its reached.

I check once to see what the expected delivery date is, and then on that date I check to see if it went out on the truck.

I believe that the USPS does offer tracking as an additional service (for an extra fee). It's certainly not as real-time as the big boys (FedEx and UPS), but it's better than nothing.

If you want to be an über-geek, just use the desktop apps which I believe support pop-ups on status changes. Then you can know that your package was damaged beyond all recognition by the package huckers loading the brown trucks instantly!

^^ That's what I do too. If I'm expecting a package when school is in, the UPS guy delivers it to the school before noon. During the summer months I usually get the packages late in the evening. I've also been known to follow the brown truck to get my package!! I live in a very small town, so he's not hard to find. But I usually wait until I hear Lexie barking. She lets me know when someone is at the door.

Oh! there's the big brown truck now! Two deliveries this week! First the 100mm macro lens and today an order from B&H.

Guess I'm through waiting for packages for a while now!

I have on a few occasions pulled one of the Brown trucks line haul trailers. After spending 5 hours sitting in the Cincinnati terminal they finally released me to head to Atlanta with the load, but said to call them at my halfway point and they would tell me then which terminal in ATL to deliver too. Sometimes its a wonder if anything gets delivered correctly
