Well, I have read the majority of responses to your question and there have been some very good points presented and I agree with most of them. However, I totally understand why you did what you did, I am that type of person too, I enjoy helping others and I definately need the good karma. I also listen to my gut, or feelings, or whatever you want to call it, and when I do I am very rarely wrong. I think it sucks when we come across those type of people who are not grateful for the help you are offering and think that they need to get more from you and are not willing to do what is necessary to help themselves for whatever reason. Unfortunately there seems to more and more of those types around nowadays! I also think you went above and beyond trying to be nice to her. I know I would have totally lost my temper and most likely my explanation would not have been received well!! Been there, done that, got the t-shirt, too many times than I care to admit to!!
I also have a theory why she might have her kids in daycare but no money for a bus ride...I was a single parent for 6yrs prior to meeting my husband, and I occasionally had to get on welfare for one reason or another. She may have qualified for the free daycare or discounted daycare which you can get when you have a job or if they require you to get a job. It could have been her day off or she could have gotten off work early, you have to pay the same amount everyweek to keep the spot open for your child whether they are there or not and you pay the same even if you pick them up early! So if the kids have fun while they are there I can see why you would leave them all day!!
In this day and age sometimes it is hard to see all the legitamate reasons, and it is hard to respond to something with only limited info or sketchy info and shame on those who judge a book by its cover. (I can say this because I have done it, unfortunately) |
