Always good to see these types of operations shut down or forced to change.

Good start. Quite a few more to go though, well over a hundred I'm sure. For those who feel they got taken, here's a quote from the article:

Customers seeking restitution will be able to submit claims to the New York Better Business Bureau from July through December.

About time... although I'd rather have seen all of them close, especially 86th Street and Broadway Photo.

It's not that simple once the AG is involved. The prosecution and monitoring is of the individual operators, not just the business. The deal they took likely has some built-in repercussions should they fail to comply.

They'll be back being run by someone else. Once you bust the local drug guys, someone else is on the street corner the next day. Too much money to be made, and the consequences when you get caught are not that severe.

I will never forget my one and only time dealing with these types, AM Photo Video World. I was buying my first digital, a Dimage 7i. I should have known something was up when they asked my credit card number b4 asking what I wanted to order. Thru various upselling pressures I wound up spending $1204.31 instead of the $569 they advertised for the camera. $1204.31 was my available credit on the card I was using.

I'm sorry, but people should know better than to try and get 50% off of cameras from some of these stores like that. If it's too good to be true...

Popular Photography the magazine, has a code of ethics for their advertisers. That is why you never see Broadway Photo and others of that ilk advertising there.

Sonic Cameras is already back under another name. They are called Bingo Cameras now and have the same rude and obnoxious guy that answers the phone.
