Getting white lens into Astros game? - 07-07-2009, 10:24 PM

Anybody ever had a problem getting in the gate carrying a white lens or any big lens for that matter? I want to either bring in my 70-200 2.8L or 400 5.6L to the game on friday but don't want to bring one only to get denied at the gate and have to walk it back to the car.

You'll be fine with the 70-200. I've brought mine plenty of times. Although I have not been this year. I can't comment on the 400, but I'm going to guess no.

Visitors are welcome to bring video and still cameras into the ballpark; however, tripods and monopods are not allowed in the seating areas. Camera lenses cannot exceed 4.5 inches.

Think they'll let my 1000mm f/7.9 in? The equatorial mount makes it a bit hard to track sports, and the lack of a camera attached to it is kinda limiting, but it might be entertaining from the cheap seats. :)

Thanks all, looks like I will take the 70-200, the 400 is only alittle longer but don't want to push it.

I took my first baseball shots with a 70-200 f4L at an Astro's game. Zero harassment. Gotta love baseball fields like Minute Maid.

I haven't been to a game this year. Unless they re-wrote the rules, you were allowed to enter the park with that setup. I've done it many times in the past.

***EDIT***
uh oh! This is from the Houston Astros information guide

thats really strange given that the FAQs say:

Minute Maid Park A-Z guide | astros.com: Ballpark

I'm planning to walk from my friend's house hence today, so I REALLY want to make sure.

Darn, that just stinks if they start enforcing that rule.

Last year I remember carry a copy of the rules in my back pack just in case one the baggage checkers wouldn't let me in with my gear.

ive been this year (may 6th to be exact) and took that exact equipment. no problem for me.

edit: ill add that i took it in my Domke 700-30B F-3X Super Compact Bag ...the lens was just in one of the inside side pouches, and i wasnt even required to take it out of the bag. i just flipped open the top and they glanced in.
