Picture this... - 07-08-2009, 12:00 AM

The sun has just come over the top of the wasatch mtns, its a bright clear blue day. In front of me I spot a field about ten acres in size that is nothing but Purple, I spot the sign "Young Living Lavender Fields". The field is nothing but rows of purple flowers on light green stalks, and one guy in the middle of the field wearing a bright yellow hat. Its on the other side of the I-15, I am getting ready to pull the truck to the side, jump out run across 2 lanes of traffic, thru the median, cross 2 more lanes while carrying the bag and tripod.

Before I get stopped, the phone rings. The other half is on the phone calling from Dallas, "Tinker is missing", our four year old dacshund/chiauaua mix was supposed to be staying at a "friends" house. "Frank called, she has been missing since Sunday evening", I don't take any pictures.

TINKER COME HOME!!!

5 minutes won't make the difference of your dog being found... stop and take the picture!

I don't think it's the time lost, I think it's probably more like nothing is beautiful anymore when your dog is missing. John, I hope you've found Tinker already.

I'm really sorry. You were right about putting "friends" in quotes, though. Not very friendly to let something like that happen and then basically hide it from you.

I hope you (or them) find Tinker quickly, and find her safe. My dogs have gotten out from time to time (sometimes right after a bath, hence no tags) and I've always been lucky. I wish that same luck for you.

its been since Sunday evening and we have not a sign of Tinker. The cosmetics company in Dallas was nice enough to fly the other half home to retrieve the other dog that was being cared for and do some searching, then provided transportation back to Dallas, with one of there reps. Chris is back in San Antonio now and looked all day, no luck. All this drought and heat means no water anywhere, I have really little hope left.

I don't know how parents of abducted, missing or runaway children cope. I don't have any children, my pets are the closest thing. I have had animals b4 that had to be put down but never one that was missing. To be away from the scene makes it worse, just the helpless feeling.

btw... the lavender field is between mile marker 237 and 238 on I-15 in UT

did you hide the bodies of the 'friends' well.... do you need help with that? Cause there are some serious animal lovers on this board that'd probably come help you.

I'm sure the friends feel bad too. I remember house sitting with a dog at Christmas time, and we showed up one evening to find the dog gone. We were running around the neighborhood for hours on Christmas eve, and finally saw the silhouette of the dog under a street lamp about 5 blocks down. We got him back, and then I fixed the fence.
And just yesterday I was in Brownwood at the bike shop there, and heard a story about their dog that got out while they were out of town, and was hit by a car. She said the person that was in care of the dog feels bad still, and that was a while back.
I think dogs are upset easily when put into a foreign situation, and more likely to run away when they have a babysitter instead of their owner.

Story goes that Sunday afternoon, Tinker and Cowboy (the other hound), had been left in the backyard while the sitter took a nap. He was awakened by Cowboy scratching at the back door. When he went out Tinker was gone, BUT we never got word of what had happened till Tue morning when Chris called to make sure all was well with the dogs, so he let the dog go for at least 36 hrs b4 we even knew. If he hadn't been called who knows how long Tinker would have been gone without our knowledge. I can forgive an accident about Tinker getting out, I cannot, will not forgive not being notified.

No bodies to hide yet, I haven't gotten home yet.
