After all the problems I've had with Vista I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. If Windows 7 is what everyone says it is, I'll be upgrading ASAP.

Dont waste your time bro. Im a professional IT consultant and its my opinion that upgrading to Vista at this time would be a waste of money. Windows 7 is coming out very soon and it will be more compatible with legacy hardware than Vista.

I still use XP Home on my photo editing computer and it works fine for me, no complaints.

STOP! WAIT! October of this year, MS will release Win 7! Save them pennies and get it!

I absolutely love it.

Another on the 'don't get Vista' side.

I have it, I like it - it has some issues (had to do a complete reinstall of Vista to install CS4 products) - but I like it. Our roomie did a Windows 7 Beta test, and it was awesome - way better than Vista.

The beta is no longer usable. There is an RC (release candidate) that is available and will be good until either march or may of 2010.

I recommend to everyone to either stay put with XP (if it works why fix it?) or wait until windows 7 comes out if you really feel you need to upgrade.

I would still be using Windows 2000 pro if it were compatible with my processor.

Rich - that's a great question - why upgrade from the BETA version?

Because the BETA version expires... I think Jan 2010. It shuts down every 30 minutes or something psychotic.

But if you try the BETA version, you can buy the legit version 'pre-release' or something, for 1/2 off.

Lets face it, a painted zebra is still a zebra. The beta or as MS calls is a "RC" is very stable and useable.

The RC will expire June 1, 2010, and the bi-hourly shutdowns will begin on March 1, 2010.

the issues with Vista are almost 100% related to upgrades, not clean or new installs. If you want to migrate to Vista, do a CLEAN INSTALL, not a simple upgrade.

But if XP is working, why migrate at all?

I disagree, Win Pro x64 doesn't support OpenGL needed for CS4 video card usage.

DirectX 10 doesn't work on XP (yes you can force it)

Since 32bit OS's do not address more than 3.5 gb of ram you are left with XP Pro, Vista 64, or Win7 for consumer systems. I have all of them and used all of them with PS. Win7 hands down runs the best and most stable. XP Pro runs the fastest but is glitchy on some new devices and drivers and Vista is the DOG with nothing good.

I disagree. I clean install every time and it sucks every time.

depends on how you define 'clean'......even Evil Dwight at chron.com fessed up awhile back after flaming it non-stop forever. He did a clean install and magically all his issues disappeared......
