Just my opinion, but those songs are not only tolerable - but they are perfectly appropriate for the circumstances. As far as I'm concerned... Lee Greenwood's song could be the National Anthem.

The video was a tearjerker... that last song though.. oh boy. He had a wife, and two kids... one of whose birthday was the day that he came home...he turned 13.

Some amazing photos as well:

That's the beauty of music. It is an open art form that allows people to appreciate it on different levels. Some people may love it, some might not. It's a lot like the art of photography in certain respects...

But, I didn't want that comment to steer this topic off course. That's why I listed my thoughts about the music as a side note. We should continue to focus on the importance of the turnout and support he received, and also hope/pray he is one of the last men who has to come home this way.

I'll agree with you 100% on all of it... my husband leaves in 60 days for a year long deployment...so there's lots of hoping & praying going on.

My third grade teacher, an elderly lady named MS. Elda who wore the worst wigs and said the word 'oil' like 'earl', would make us stand next to our desks at the end of the day and sing along to this song. She had an old 45 album and she played it on an old wooden box record player. That song has ALWAYS been one of my favorites.

When I went to Boot Camp in 93, my Company Commander played this on his radio in the barracks everynight before lights out, and we were required to sing it.

Not political, but a point of history.
When I came home from a similar war, we were spit on , and not saluted.
Am I bitter ? Yes. Am I happy that it isn't the same now ? Damned right.

Wow! ALL of our soldiers should have this treatment! This really shows one of the aspects that I love about my country. Very, VERY awesome, and awe inspiring. I just can't even put it into words...
