How has this hot weather changed your Photographing habits? - 07-15-2009, 11:19 PM

It's hot. Can't really describe it any other way. With temps in 100+ I find that I have no desire to pick up the camera and go out and do any sort of shooting. None of the kids want to go outside to take any shots, I don't want to do any sort of outdoors activity. I find that I'm just not picking up the camera much right now. Has anyone else experienced this? This hot weather just really saps my energy and all I want to do is sit in my airconditioned office in my house and just read photo forums :) I'm living my photography hobby through others :)

On a side note, I have found that I'm catching up on editing a bunch of photo's, and cleaning out old images while I stay indoors. Anyone else still showing the passion and hitting the outdoors with their cameras?

For photographing outdoors, the best light is early in the morning or in the evening before the sun goes down. Those times are also the only time you can venture outside before your skin melts off! My habits haven't changed much.

My habits have changed. I've been too lazy to get up early (hey, i'm on summer break, too!), and I've gotten smarter about when I choose to visit some of the more, er, questionable locations I used to go to, so I'm avoiding them at dusk. Funny how a few years, a new car, and a couple thousand in camera equipment can make you rethink whether or not something's safe! LOL!

When the soles of my feet burn - ON GRASS - at 11am, that's God's way of telling me to stay home and surf the 'net.

I have found that shooting through the car window works pretty well.

Actually that is just a joke, I shot a birthday party at a park last weekend... HOT!

Yeah, I haven't been going out near as much as I'd like. It's just too darn hot, and I can't seem to get up earlier.

I have sorted and tagged a lot of my older photos though...

I have wanted to do some shooting outside, but after I go out, I quickly change my mind. I haven't been shooting at all since it's been really hot.

No one is hiring me to shoot outdoors right now. Thank God, 'cause if they did I'd have to do it.
This is the time when having a studio available is really handy.

I shot a wedding last weekend where the A/C in the church was not working properly. It was 85*F in the church and I was in the balcony. It was hot as hell.

I've found that when I go take pictures now I bring a change of clothes.

Man, shouldn't all of you professionals have a "temperature surcharge" in your contracts, so when the temperature gets over 100 degrees, you can charge a 20% premium? Heck, UPS started adding "fuel surcharges" to their delivery fees when gas prices got high, so it's not like it's only you doing it :)
