Critical Mass Houston... - 07-16-2009, 02:07 PM

anyone interested in Covering it with me?

It's on 7/31, the event is held every last Friday of the Month.

Bicycle Riders meet up in Downtown Houston congregate and then ride around. It is part protest, part party, part awareness campaign, part party.

Must have a bicycle (and decent riding skills) to keep up with the "peloton."

I've always wanted to ride one in Houston, but I always miss it! Going back to Austin the Friday before this. Just got my new fixie, too.

The protest is often that "Bikes belong on the roads, too." But depending on the dynamics of the ride, sometimes the groups break a number of traffic laws, generally hurting rather than helping that cause. I've never ridden/witnessed a Critical Mass ride, but I bet it can be trippy/fun/interesting and dangerous. Definitely cool to photograph!

I ride Critical Mass every month.

mostly a bunch of messengers & random hipsters/artists.

Good people though, and the rides are fun.

There is no "leader" or set route. The ride is usually about 10 miles or so, sometimes up to 20 miles. We sometimes end up at an art opening/show or music event or (ware)house party. You can ride however long you want. Ride at your own risk, meet new people.

Good times, good times.

So yea:

Meet up @ Tranquility Park about 7pm
Last Friday of Every Month
