Would Firestone Void Honda Warranty? - 07-18-2009, 03:49 PM

My car is under a Honda warranty, but the Honda dealership is in Frisco (I'm in Garland). I'm planning to begin moving into my new house next week, so I don't have a lot of spare time. Instead of driving 50 minutes to Frisco and waiting around all day, I could take my car to a nearby Firestone and spend the day with a UHaul truck while Firestone works on my car. That is, unless it would void my warranty.

Would any of you happen to know about that?

It depends on what they are doing.

When I drove out to Spaceport America in New Mexico, I drove over some rough dirt roads. A flat, plastic piece, about the width of my car and a foot deep, tore out from underneath the front of my car. I don't know that needs to be replaced, but I'm fairly certain the front end alignment has been ruined. I have to hold the steering wheel turned slightly left to drive straight down the road, and I notice tire vibration when I am near highway speeds. Honda aligned my tires before I left on my trip, but I had to pay for that. Warranty covered the engine mount replacement work they did at the same time.

Honda will not pay Firestone for what may otherwise be warranty work. But, letting another mechanic work on your car should not void the warranty, per se. However, if they mess with something that could have been warranty, then Honda would likely not warranty anything concerning followup work on that.

Take it to Rusty Wallis Honda on 635 near Garland Rd. It doesn't matter which Honda dealer you take it to. It's also about 2 blocks from a big Uhaul dealer.

You can have regular maintenance and repairs done at an reputable service provider. Just make sure to keep the records. If something is covered under warranty, that repair has to be completed at a Honda dealer. Considering that, it's a good idea to have a relationship with a Honda dealer for when you need them.
