Thought I'd seen it all - 07-21-2009, 11:14 AM

Going south on 121 through Grapevine and Euless yesterday at 5:30 p.m., there was a woman driving in the right lane, at about 55 MPH, reading a book. Seriously. She had the book open across the steering wheel, grasping both it and the wheel, while driving.

I see it all the time in Houston. Unbelievable. If they dislike driving so much, find other means to commute rather than risking others lives.

And? I read when I drive...

okay... I read road signs... and street signs... and I count the stupid dashes in the middle of the road... and check out license plates... I have ADD... and hate driving...

okay... I don't hate driving... I hate driving the SPEED LIMIT.

Reminds me of a call into KSEV a while back... this guy said that he looked across and the woman was talking with her cell phone with her left hand... and putting makeup on with her right hand.... he slowed down to fall back... and her bumper sticker said:

How Would Jesus Drive?

I cracked up... lol...

Did you call the cops?

Much like those people filmed that lady sleeping and driving.

Donna, speed limits are mere suggestions. If you're caught too far above 'em, then it becomes a speed tax.

Thankfully most people don't adhere to speed limits and instead adhere to traffic flows. I am known to "occasionally" bruise speed limits, but ONLY when I do not, in any way, interfere with other drivers around me. What really gets to me (and we seem to have a big problem with it out in Katy) is those folks who feel its their job to "police" the roadways by purposely blocking folks from going above the speed limit.

My other rant? Why is it that NOBODY in the greater Houston area can understand how to negotiate a FOUR WAY STOP?!@?!?!?

Pictures of the offenders? This is a Photo forum you know... ;-)

On a highway in Austin I passed a guy once on his morning commute who was casually drinking coffee while reading the newspaper, opened across the steering wheel. Granted he was occasionally peeking over the top to see what he might possibly be about to hit. Couldn't decide whether it was safer in front or behind the goober.

Do police departments welcome those kinds of calls? I wonder what kind of response I would have gotten if I'd called 911 and said, "There's a woman reading a book while she's driving..."

Depending on call load at the time the call is received...

Jeeze she has to get her romance novel time in!

I may WALK and read at the same time, and I may pull a MAP/ATLAS out on occasion when I'm on the road but read a newspaper while driving? WTF?

I really wonder what some of the Interstate Truckers see while driving.

No, you don't want to know...really. A buddy of mine used to be an over-the-road trucker. He has seen it all. I do me ALL.

Ok nobody in all off the dfw area know how to negotiate a four way stop either.......as for the flow of traffic and not interfering with other drivers, then why at 4 or 5 in the morning when there is NO ONE on the george bush tollroad did i get stopped for doing 85? LOL! I shouldnt have been stopped. i was a danger to NO ONE but myself at that point. and there is no getting out of that ticket. the suggested speed limit on that road is clearly posted at 60. 25 over the limit and you dont get defeered or defensive driving who would have thought it?!?!?! LOL!

I've used the laptop couple of times while driving, but it was on the Interstate... :( Was running some tests and had to monitor them...
