Well, I lost my job today.

I suppose this means I will have to fast track the photography business.

Thank God for savings!

Oh no... sorry to hear that. What do you do? If anyone knows of anything.. might be a place to start. I know networking is the way 'most' people get their jobs anyway...

I was a Supply Chain Manager in the oilfield industry for the past while. I'm an engineer by education.

I would imagine the job market in Houston in your training and experience would be wide open.

What branch of engineering?

Sorry to hear that. I haven't worked full time for more than a year now. It's been a year of ups and downs, but I wouldn't trade the extra time with my family for anything!

I've been hearing in the news these past couple of days that California is most likely gonna remove their moratorium against offshore drilling. Likely to be lots of supply chain issues out there if this comes to pass. Course that would mean you'd have to relocate to California, which as a former 24-year resident of the state, I can't entirely recommend . . . but the scenery is sure nice

I've got a close personal bud who basically runs the IT department at Amerada Hess here in Houston. He's a BSEE and loves it there. You might check them out, and if you'd like I can give him a heads-up you're looking. Can't hurt, I reckon.

I had a friend who got laid off too and like everyone here he is into photography too.

He does weddings on weekends, I told him maybe it's a sign that he should shift to full gear and concentrate on what he loves and does best.

Maybe it's the same for you, perhaps now is the time to be bold and start something new...

it's tough even in houston now. I do college recruiting for my company and even for petroleum engineers it is tough to get a job out of college. I know kids who are graduating and taking internships b/c they can't get a full time job in the oilfield.

I would imagine the need for procurement folks at this time is in the tank (although they pester me enough for me to wish their existence away). Our group has an outstanding offer to an individual who hasn't ever worked in the oilfield, but apparently we need a statistical genius.

I dread the day and feel for you...

Repeat after me, "I'm not unemployed. I'm a photographer."

Seriously, though.. that sucks. Stupid economy.

Check the various hospitals in the Texas Medical Center. Almost all have Supply Chain departments, and may have openings.
