Drove back with my 'constant companion' from Santa Fe, NM today.
It was a nice drive, and the weather was terrific.
I drove the leg from Santa Fe to Childress, Tx ( six hrs ) and companion took over in Childress after lunch. Just before I reclined the seat, I reminded her that the speed limit was 70 and that I had set the cruise control at 76. My thought was that the Highway Patrol wouldn't be concerned about me doing less than 10 percent over.
Just outside of Quanah I am awakened by the unmistakable "Shoot !" that is her way of swearing. I look up, we are in the passing lane, right on our bumper is a Highway Patrol cruiser. She quickly pulls over to the right lane and the lights come on. "think he wants me to pull over ?"
Seems she didn't bother with the cruise control and he just came up and tailed us doing 81. I think if you aren't paying enough attention to notice a cruiser tailing you in the passing lane, you deserve a fine....

I wonder how long he was there. The trooper was probably like "Um......, ahem....., hello!" :)

I think if you want this person to remain a 'constant companion' for much longer, you will drop the subject and let it slide this time.

haha nice. i had a similar situation a long time ago with an ex constant companion...i drove down to houston doing about 80 the whole way with no issues with coppers...
on the way back she attempted to do the same...and got pulled over. she wasn't very happy that she got caught and i didn't.

I'll give her credit though for 'fessing up immediately. When he asked if there was any reason she was going so fast her answer was " because I am an idiot".
The problem is that I will now probably have to suffer the boredom of having to sit through the at home DVD version of the safe driving course (again!) so she has some company.
I've been to the comedy classes, the magician classes, and even the 'born again' traffic safety classes. ( why? I'm old and like to drive recklessly).

Am I wrong ? | Nope, not wrong senor.
That rearview mirrow should be utilized about as often as the windshield. All eyes on the road, front and back. jeffro20 added 1 Minutes and 11 Seconds later...Double Post Merged Below Quote:

Am I wrong ? | You are absolutely correct, but if you happen to mention your correctness, you will be an absolute idiot.

or as another person told me friday, "don't say that in front of her or else you won't get none." which technically means I will get some, but I knew what he meant...

I'm reminded of the time a friend said something in front of his wife, and she gave him "the look"...
I said " boy, are you going to get it when you get home !"
He said " oh no i'm not ! " | | | |

That stretch of highway is legendary for fast drivers and DPS troopers . . . when the two happen to meet up a ticket usually ensues.

I also got a speeding ticket near Quanah many years ago. It was in Motley County. The patrolman's last name was Motley. I figured the JP was probably named Motley also, so I just paid it and moved on.
