looking for vacation spots... - 07-28-2009, 12:12 AM

the gf and i wanna get outta town. we want to go corpus/padre/galveston/texas coast...you get the idea.

i'm specifically looking for a place that has a decent room (i don't need a 'ritz' type place) at a hotel or time share condo kind of thing that is -on- the beach. it would be nice if there were also a bar or two in a cheap cab ride distance.

we're looking to check-in late night thursday (we'll leave right after work thurs) aug 6th and check out sunday aug 9th.

i'm not going to book/pay/etc anything until this friday so i'll be looking for last minute deals.

so with all that, does anyone have any suggestions?

Price line. Go for a 4 star hotel adn offer 80 a night, then drop to a 3 star and 65 a night. See if that will work for ya.

Ignore David. (Just for a few minutes!) ;-)

go to: Biddingfortravel.com - and find out what people are paying for a 4* hotel in Galveston before you go to Priceline.

The Hotel Galvez in Galveston someone got for around $100/night (room is $239 direct I think).

Corpus: around $60 or so.

Hope it helps! And you can always do late check in with Priceline.

I love Texas and I love the beach.....but I hate Texas beaches. Drive a few hours longer and get east of the Mississippi River. That damn river and the ocean currents make our beaches and water not so nice.

PADRE PADRE PADRE!!!

When we stayed there was a hotel that was on the Bay side, but you could walk across the street to the beach. There used to be a fabulous little octagon shaped margarita bar right there ON the beach as well! We loved it.

katy...i mean donna - cool, i'll check that out. i honestly would like to do corpus...but galveston is a couple hours closer so that's what we'll prob do...

kim - i'll check into that place then

No... but it was two levels, locally owned, and it was peach in color....

ETA: Padre also gives you the option of crossing the border to Matamoras (sp?) and shopping in Mexico...

Your so funny! ;-) I'll keep my eye out to see if I come across anything special down that way.

Okay - you might check this out:

you said condo type place... I'd probably pay for a hotel... but I'm kind of a snob that way... blame it on my husband. ;-)

but Craigslist also had an amazing number of these types of rentals as well.

ohhhh didn't even think of craigslist....

as for the condo thing, it's a toss up. we love to stay in hotels (usually nicer) but it's harder to do your own food thing....which usually when you're out on vacation you eat at local dives....but...yeah....toss up...

If you want to bring your own food, then try the Homewood suites (Hilton) on Galveston. There is one near the sea wall (by Wal-mart). There are two rooms to every room, one is a kitchen/living room the other is the bedroom/bathroom. We stayed in one in CO. It was great b/c the kids had the living room and we had the bedroom.
