"Wedding Photographer charged with theft" - 07-28-2009, 01:25 PM

The Bexar County DA is prosecuting a wedding photographer for theft in criminal court which in the past may have been heard in a civil court. Allegedly, the photographer collected his payment but failed to provide his clients with photographs. It will be interesting to watch this trial as it unfolds and the impact it will have on photographers in San Antonio and local area.

Read the story and you'll discover that this 'photographer' has a history of bilking couples (15) out of their money and not delivering the goods.

What is amazing to me is that he seems to have gotten a decent amount for his services, so why wouldn't he go ahead and deliver the pictures, etc. ??

It's guys like this that make a bad name for the industry.

hmmm....the way the article reads is that he basically takes the pictures and doesn't give them any of the pictures. Which we would do if they didn't pay for anything else. Obviously, he is failing to execute on his contracts in a timely manner...

Sounds more like fraud than theft.

It sucks, because I've already run across the issue of "I don't want to pay a deposit bc you might not show." This just throws more weight behind that. Blech.

They did a story on this guy a while back - one of the news stations did. It was pretty bad. He would show up to do the wedding, etc - and then would totally flake out on getting the product to the couples.

A photographer who had been doing this a while said that it's a common issue - a photographer takes a payment, and spends the payment, and doesn't have the money to fund the purchases for the items that the client paid for... and it just rolls down hill.

It's awful.

My wife has a friend whose daughter was "Crunked". The daughter was able to get a disc of her images. My wife designed a beautiful album for her and both moms, but they ended up paying for the albums twice. By the way his images were very good so it wasn't hard to design a killer album. Kind of the same deal here looks like. Photographer going thru a divorce and gives up on taking care of business. He also made the local news. Angry brides created a website to warn future brides to avoid being "Crunked". A phrase from the website.
