Angry VENT~ Sticky Fingered People UPDATE!! - 07-31-2009, 12:21 PM

MAKE ME ANGRY!! My brother called early this morning asking for the serial # to a lens I gave him to use on his camera. Seems he and his girlfriend were sitting out on the patio area of their apartment complex looking at pictures using the LCD screen. Some "neighbors and their friends" showed up. After every one left, he and his gf went into the apartment. Since he was coming right back out, he left the camera sitting on the table by the back door. By the time he got back out there, the camera was gone!!

He has contacted the police; they have made a report, now he is calling all area pawnshops.

Crap like this just P*$$*$ me off! Even though we all know, he should of never left it sitting on the table.

Never let yourself be a victim.
Use your brain with who you trust.

Sucks for you brother, but sticky fingers aren't so stick if there's nothing to swipe.

There's this whole sheep dog/wolf commentary that I read a while back - it's a fabulous read. The difference between the sheep dog... and the wolf... is choice. So I agree with Daniel...

Here is the commentary

Heather, I thought about your situation when he was asking for the serial #. Although much different, since they didn't enter the house and steal the camera, it still just sucks! Not exactly the words he used, but I won't go there!!

I read that years ago. I wonder what the author thinks qualifies as hurting other people? The guy who stole this camera and lens did not commit a violent crime. Per the commentary, the guy is one of those who would not hurt anybody, because he only stole what he could obtain peacefully. A very big percentage of our society falls in this category; they won't fight for anything, but they will quietly pilfer. I am particularly amazed at how many people I meet constantly try to out-con the other guy. I hate engaging in financial transactions because the majority of people and the businesses they operate look out for their own benefit at the expense of my benefit. I often end up having to spend my time, money, talent and effort to correct their actions so that I come up even in the agreement.

Yes, and sadly enough like you said there is a large percentage of our society in this category.

I think he's more angry at himself for not taking it in with him to start with.

Material stuff can be replaced. The moments captured on the card in the camera are now gone forever and can never be replaced. That's what would make me the maddest. With some luck and persistent phone calls, maybe that won't be the fate of the missing memories.

What was the camera/lens combo?
I HATE having to have my gear attached to my hips at all times! It gets heavy after 6 hours of shooting! People suck.

I think the camera is an XTi (I know it's an XT something) and the lens is a Tamron 28-300mm.
