I have been very happy with Green Mountain Energy, but I don't know what their coverage is in Plano.

A co-worker who lives in the area says that most of the neighbors have Green Mountain.

I use YEP (www.yeptexas.com) and have been happy with them and their price.

I just went with Champion here in Arlington and knocked my darn Reliant 14.5 cents per kw to 9.3.....Got a $50 bonus as well. I used the powertochoose.org site as well...and used a referral code I got from my inlaws... Very painless.

I have been looking over the top companies listed on Electricity Bid - http://www.electricitybid.com/electr...ric-companies/ - but I have a difficult time wading through all the details to figure out who is offering what. I don't see Yep energy listed, but I checked out their Web page:

"Pursuant to YEP’s Low Price Guaranty, regardless of how many kWhs you consume throughout the duration of this plan’s term, YEP guaranties that your total price per kWh you will pay to YEP under YEP’s Fixed Rate Guaranteed E-Plan (including the base energy price plus all Taxes, Delivery Charges, and any other charges on a kWh basis) will be between 7% and 20% lower than the total price to be paid per kWh (including the base energy price plus all Taxes, Delivery Charges, and any other charges on a kWh basis) under any residential fixed price plan with the same fixed term (i.e., the same number of months) that is presently offered to the general public by Reliant Energy in the CenterPoint service area, TXU Energy in the Oncor Service area, CPL Energy in the AEP Texas North service area, WTU Retail Energy in the AEP Texas Central service area, and First Choice Power in the Texas New Mexico Power (“TNMP”) service area, or, if you chose YEP’s Green Earth 100% Renewable E-Plan, under any residential fixed price green plan with the same fixed term, that is presently offered to the general public by Reliant Energy in the CenterPoint service area, TXU Energy in the Oncor Service area, CPL Energy in the AEP Texas North service area, WTU Retail Energy in the AEP Texas Central service area, and First Choice Power in the Texas New Mexico Power (“TNMP”) service area."

Whew!

I've looked at Champion quite a lot, today. I don't believe that I'll use 1000 kWh of electricity per month unless I get a roommate.

Really? Wow. Lucky you. There are two of us living in a 1510sf house, and my usage is around 1500-1600 kWh/mo.

MHampton added 5 Minutes and 23 Seconds later...Double Post Merged Below

I used 6191kWhr this past month at my house. When I had Texas Power they upped my rate without ever telling me and I ended up with two $800 bills a couple of years ago. Since I switched to YEP they have been pretty consistant. My current rate it 0.08 which is pretty decent for my area.

Green Mountain was offering a rate of $.137 per killowat hour a few months back with no monthly base charge and I've had no problems, really Oncor maintains the power lines the whoever your provider is just feeds juice into the system and then bills by your meter usage at least in N Texas. Trying to get my Dad in Richardson to change over since his last TXU bill was at over $.15 a kwh but he wants to wait and see what this reduction in rates that TXU is dangling out there will be. (TXU has a base charge of something like $20 a month no matter if you use 1Kwh or 10,000 in a residence).

Also pay close attention to CONTRACT LENGTHS and Cancelation charges, heard that one guy had signed onto a "new rate" with TXU about a year ago after being with them for over 10 years and he decided to change providers and since it was less than the 2 year length of the new contract he had to pay a $200 disconnection fee. Also look at what the charges are if for some reason you have your power cut off for non-payment (things can get tough at times for anybody) and they have to kill power and then turn it back on also what sort of deposit you will need to place and if they pay interest on the deposit while they hold it.

(I had to pay no deposit on my GMountain, guess because I've been in my house for a long time with good bill pay history).
