Att Canon+Iphone owners.

This is a discussion on Att Canon+Iphone owners. within the Open Talk forums, part of the General Information category; I just thought this would be neat to play with. Hopefully it's popular enough that they'll create a Nikon version. ...

According to their FAQ, it needs to be tethered by USB, Firewire, or Canon Wireless File Transfer.

Reviews of it so far are "meh"

A dedicated remote is fairly cheap and just as good.

"Meh" is correct. Paying the $19.99 (even the 9.99 intro price) to have my camera tethered to my laptop is an additional task that is not needed by a dedicated remote.

Sounds pretty awesome to me. Expecially considering the fact that it will also have intervalometer capabilities (lapse time for star trails, etc.) and Canon's timer remote with intervalometer capability costs $140 and is also tethered and doesn't have nearly the other capabilities (live view on a screen away from camera, control of shutter/aperture, etc).

Way cool. Just makes me wish even more that I had an iPhone.

If y'all do a search, this has been discussed a month or two ago...

I fail to see any real use for this, (would be a nice toy to play with) as it requires a Laptop or computer to be tethered too. I regularly use a remote in churches for weddings, to get photos I would not otherwise be able to get, by using Pocketwizards and a pre-trigger.

I can just see myself with an iPhone...messing with the settings and looking at the iPhone and ... well, missing the best shot of the ceremony cause I was playing with a phone. I simply mash the remote button on the pocket wizard and don't even have to look and can be shooting my other camera at the same time. Much simpler and very effective.

Sports? I wouldn't think so. I wouldn't be willing to leave a laptop around a basketball goal in a basketball game. It would get smashed sooner or later or messed with by someone.

I agree with Billy 100%. Having the camera tethered to the laptop is simply an unnecessary task. Especially when Panocamera.com is testing a Nintendo DS much in the same way. Though it hasn't been released yet.

Would be a great studio setup, as with liveview and a video-enabled iPhone you can see what the viewfinder sees. I saw an ad in the latest issue of Professional Photographer that it's also now available for Nikon shooters.

I still have to disagree. I work in a studio daily and this wouldn't be my triggering mechanism of choice...even though we are teathered. It would be MUCH quicker and easier to frame, focus and then trigger without looking down at an iPhone or other gadet.

I use a trigger, as I am talking to and looking at directing my clients, and I know my shot will be right the INSTANT I press the release on the trigger.

It's a matter of preference. I wouldn't know what to do with a Nikon in a studio. Maybe a paperweight?

A camera is a tool, if you believe otherwise, you are mistaken. I can use both Nikon or Canon and get exceptional results with either.

My comment was a JOKE. If you believe otherwise, you were mistaken. Happy shooting!
