Angel Food Ministry: Yes you qualify! ;) - 08-03-2009, 02:58 PM

I was on another forum, it's a debate forum, and someone brought up the Angel Food Minstry program - I know several folks on the TPF board are without a job - or are struggling financially - so I thought I'd post some info on it.

http://www.angelfoodministries.com/

You don't have to be broke to use it. You don't have to be rich to use it.
You don't need to clip coupons, or have a special 'customer card' to benefit.

You get a box full of restaurant quality food - for $30... for around $65 worth of food.

Here's a list for a week in August:
For those who aren't familiar with Angel Food Ministries - they are awesome. Here's what you get for $30
1.5 lb. Ribeye Steaks (4 x 6 oz.)
3 lb. IQF Split Chicken Breast
1 lb. Boneless Center Cut Pork
Chops
2 lb. Mac &?Beef Dinner Entrée
1.5 lb. Breaded All White Meat
Chicken Nuggets
1 lb. 80/20 Lean Ground Beef
1 lb. Bake or Fry Fish Sticks
(32 sticks)
1 lb. Frozen Corn
1 lb. Frozen Baby Lima Beans
1 ct. Cello-Wrapped Iceberg Lettuce

2 lb. Sweet Potatoes
15 oz. Pork & Beans
1 lb. Rice
32 oz. 2% Shelf Stable Mill
Dozen Eggs
Dessert
They also offer other 'special' packages - meats, a vegetable/fruit order... all at great prices.

The more people that participate, the more their bargaining power is... the better price they can get...which benefits those who are truly in need of the help they provide.

Anyway - thought I'd share.

I used to get thier food alot when I was single and had the 2 teenagers at the house. Now my daughter and my Mom both use this service.

It's a great help to anyone with a tight budget looking for some food for the fridge.

We weren't all that impressed with the quality of some of the food, so we dropped them. Quality improves and we probably will go back to them.

I was reading today - and found that it's kind of a hit and miss kind of thing - if you have kids - it's great cause alot of it is 'kid' friendly kinds of food. The steaks & such required some tenderizing... but were great if you did that...

Thanks for the info.

The first two, the chicken looked like frozen bits of throw away parts. One of our veg or fruit boxes (I don't remember) was mostly mildewed. We didn't do #3. Hopefully it was just a local problem.
