I personally hate them just as much as I hate the new IDs. Too, for the lack of a better word, flamboyant.

Oh god. Well at least it's better than some of the ones in the design study a year ago.
I'm keeping my current ones as long as possible.
And did i hear right? I heard you will now keep your plates and move them from car to car rather than getting new ones every time you get a new car. Is this true? That's the way it was in NY. I get new cars so often, and I only run a rear plate so now my garage has a big collection of texas plates.

Is this true? | what they told me the last time I bought a car (maybe 6 months ago) is that you are supposed to remove your plates when you sell a car and dispose of them. They say that you will be issued new plated any time you register a new car now anyway.
If you dispose of your old ones the new owner is forced to register the car, and they cant run tolls and have the bill sent to you, etc.
I while back I sold a guy a car that wasn't running well. It took him a few months to get it fixed up I guess, because several months later the toll fees started rolling in. In order to get them dismissed, I had to go file some paperwork at the county office. All they had to say was "why would you leave your plates on there??" That was the first I had heard that.

more correctly, may be destroyed or migrated to a new vehicle. Quote:
Sec. 502.451. TRANSFER OF VEHICLE REGISTRATION AND REMOVAL OF LICENSE PLATES. (a) On the sale or transfer of a motor vehicle to a dealer, as defined by Section 503.001, who holds a general distinguishing number issued under Chapter 503, the dealer shall remove each license plate and the registration insignia issued for the motor vehicle.
(a-1) On a sale or transfer of a motor vehicle to a person that does not hold a general distinguishing number issued under Chapter 503, the seller or transferor may remove each license plate and the registration insignia issued for the motor vehicle.
(b) A license plate removed from a motor vehicle under Subsection (a) or (a-1) must be:
(1) disposed of in the manner specified by the department; or
(2) transferred to another vehicle owned by the seller or transferor as provided by Section 502.452.
(c) The part of the registration period remaining at the time of the sale or transfer shall continue with the vehicle being sold or transferred and does not transfer with the license plates or registration validation insignia. To continue the remainder of the registration period, the purchaser or transferee must file the documents required under Section 520.031.

I also think they are terrible. Almost as ugly as the new IDs.

I'm an old and stodgy guy. I like them a lot.
Flamboyant ? You betcha.
Nothing more uninteresting than a nice new Corvette with a plain cardboard license plate.
If you drive a Model T then an old plain plate is appropriate.

I'd much rather my eyes focus on the sleek lines of the corvette than a gaudy license plate. Reminds me of all the packaging design I do where I try to keep it clean, and then the client comes back and makes us gunk it up with all these "NEW!" banners and other callouts.

I'm beginning to think many like their photos better in black & white.

If I was running sh*t, which I should be ... Texas would be going back to old school plates like these.
It's a backwards state anyway, might as well embrace it!

To go really old school, Texas shouldn't have any plates at all. Nobody was riding their horses around with goofy numbered tags on their saddles. Love or hate it, that's what we've got. We went from really boring white tags to the muddled mess of having too many little icons all over the plate (cowboys and space shuttles). Not sure the new plate is a big step forward, but it is colorful.
For a classy plate, take a look at Oklahoma's new tag. A vast improvement over the last one, with pleasing colors and one icon representing the state. One of the few things we can learn from Oklahoma ... simplify!

If that JPEG is accurate, the color is awful. Three different hues of blue, which all clash with each other. Yuck.

The equivalent of over processed photos done by a high school student. Gotta love that script font at the bottom.... that's classy! | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
