Just goes to show that lots of things can have unintended consequences. A story like this involving a personality such as Mr Mays is going to generate some amount of purient interest if for no other reason than his being a "personality".
The positive (and reaching at that) is that perhaps someone will take this as a warning about their lifestyle and quit such behavior.

From despair .com, it does sound flippant, but it is said much better at the end of gone in 60 seconds:

Um, ya. You're shocked by this, given the personality he displayed?
Actually, I am. If you watched the show Pitchmen on Discovery Channel, he was a very nice guy, professional, and a good father. I'm surprised and a bit sad at the news, that show made me a fan of his :(

I would replace the word "amazing" with "appalling". His son's on Twitter, and seeing the things people are saying to him and watching his silence is heartbreaking. Up till now, he's talked constantly about how great of a father Billy was. Poor kid.
A man can be a good father and still be dealing with some sort of problem or issue. Since this is a "developing" story, we'll need to see what comes out over the next few days or weeks.

I've never understood why someone that uses/abuses an illegal drug is looked down upon more than people that use/abuse legal drugs personally.
I never met him, don't know if he was a nice guy or not. I don't know why anyone cares if he injected oxyclean into his retinas, as long as he wasn't hurting other people while doing it.
I look down on them equally...Abuse is abuse and always results in a loss to humanity......Ben
shouldnt look down upon them at all....we are all people and his drug use is no worse than you stuffing your face at the table, or lieng to some one.....we are all humans and we all struggle with problems...Instead of us trying to see through people what if we started to see people through? did any one ever think of that? i can see a man who was trying to deal with every day problems and resorted to a horribly wrong decision.... i dont look down on him for that i just think its sad

sad that he didnt feel close enough to some one who could REALLY help him through his problems....i feel the same way for michael Jackson, i feel that it is so very sad that people turn into and resort to drastic things because they have monterous problems and no one to REALLY help them in those times......so with mis-guidence they turn into mis-guided adults
