Travel to Brazil a possibility - 08-08-2009, 01:51 PM

My nephew is going to be competing in a "world powerlifting event" in Ribeirao Preto outside of Sao Paulo, Brazil in September and I'm considering going. Anybody have any experience traveling by train from Sao Paulo to Ribeirao Preto ? Is it possible ? Airfare from US to Sao Paulo is approx $500. cheaper, and was hoping to travel by train (approx 120miles) up to the event to save some cash.

Any thoughts appreciated.

Randy

Sounds like a fun trip. No experience with the train down there, but i do enjoy train travel generally. Do you already have a visa?

Edit to add: A brief search does not reveal any trains running that route, but you could take a 4 hour bus ride. :D

I've done some "local means" travel in third world countries. Not the most pleasant thing at the time. I survived and would do it again. Take a "throw down" camera.

This is going to be a last minute trip ... if I'm able to go at all ... just trying to search out as much info as I can just in case it works out. I've traveled internationally in more than 25 different countries around the world so have a fair amount of confidence in the travel, but do know it never hurts to find out as much as you can beforehand.

Thanks.
